The Mass Deacidification program manages selection and routing of books to and from an external vendor for deacidification treatment. Since 1998 the University Library has worked with Preservation Technologies, L.P., in Pennsylvania to treat selected books from the general collections by the Bookkeeper process to neutralize harmful acids in the paper. About 5000 volumes have been deacidified annually.

The head of Preservation and Conservation works with Library selectors to identify and prioritize collections for mass deacidification.
